This year our grant approved family is Katie & Gaylan!

We are Gaylan and Katie, a couple from the midwest who first connected online seven years ago. After just a week of texting, it became clear that we needed to meet in person. Our initial encounter took place at a sushi restaurant, and from that moment, we knew there was something truly special between us.

We began spending time together daily, cherishing moments like walking our dogs in the park and discussing our shared dreams for the future. Within three months, we were engaged, and another three months later, we became husband and wife. Each year, we continue the tradition of visiting that same sushi restaurant to celebrate, with this year marking our seventh anniversary.

Our lives together are simple yet incredibly meaningful to us. Gaylan has been dedicated to his remote job with the same company for a decade, while Katie devotes her time to nurturing and caring for three of our nephews as their nanny.

We share a deep love for the great outdoors, often going on hiking and camping adventures with our doggies. Our recent addition, a camper, allows us to pack up and explore new destinations for long weekends.

In 2018, when we purchased our home, Gaylan used his talents to create a beautiful raised garden in our backyard. Each spring and summer, we plant and tend to vegetables, enjoying the rewards of our labor.

Most evenings, we come together in the kitchen to prepare dinner, followed by relaxation, which might include watching a show or taking our dogs for a walk around the neighborhood.

Family holds a special place in our hearts, and we prioritize spending time with our extended family members. Living close to both our families allows us to gather for birthdays and holidays, creating cherished memories together.
